Past Captain
BABE FREED
1942-1999
It is with the greatest sadness that the Jamaica Estates Volunteer Ambulance Corps announces the passing of Gitta "Babe" Freed on December 9th, 1999.
Babe was a founding member of the ambulance corps in 1974. Without her, the corps may never have come into existence. In her 25 years of service she served in almost every officership, including 3 years as Captain.
Babe was active with various volunteer EMS organizations in New York City including District 4 of the New York State Volunteer and Rescue Association, The Regional Emergency Service Care Organization of New York City, West Queens Mutual Aid Backup System, East Queens Mutual Aid System, and the American Red Cross. She was also a senior instructor at the Center For Emergency Care and Training.
Babe is survived by her mother Regine, her sister Monica and her brother Ronald.
She will always be missed.
